UGA CHENA HUTS REVIEW:
Uga Chena Huts is the kind of hotel that makes you feel as though you’re being completely ripped off at the time of booking, but the moment you arrive, you realize it’s worth literally every penny. Whether it’s the Michelin star level food, the impeccable service or the on-site helipad, this hotel has everything covered. The huts are huge, each with a supremely comfortable king size bed, a private pool and a view out into the wilderness. The hotel is located inside Yala national park, so be warned, impromptu wildlife encounters are to be expected (and welcomed) - we were lucky enough to experience an elephant joining us by the bar for sunset drinks on our first evening (!!!). The hotel is all inclusive (with the exception of the spa offerings), and morning and afternoon game drives are part of the package. Our experience compared to other game drives was much more focused on providing a sustainable and educational experience, which we definitely appreciated after seeing how unregulated a lot of the wildlife tourism is in Sri Lanka. So it came as no surprise to us when we learned that National Geographic have done retreats at this hotel in the past. It’s impressively run by people who clearly care about preserving the natural beauty of this stunning country. And for that, in our opinion, it’s worth the eye watering price point.
